I was very pleased when I got this telescope. It was BIG! I was very impressed that for the price one could get such a nice telescope. Hey, this scope cost less than my SLR camera. It really is a bargain. The construction seems very solid. The mount is a fair bit of a monster. Quite nice for such a large scope. The whole thing was straightforward to assemble and not at all challenging. Meade has made it a fair breeze really. The lens that came with it was ok, but not impressive. I would recommend taking the money you saved on this thing, and upgrading the lens. Even after that additional expense, the whole package is definitely worth the price. This is one impressive scope. I can't wait to get some more viewing time, because this scope shows a lot of stuff.
Keep in mind that this is a BIG scope. Unless you can heft the weight of this bad boy, I'd recommend something smaller. Upgrading to a power adapter or additional battery supply could be an early follow-up purchase for some. A T-mount for my SLR will be a soon one for me, so I can try out a little astrophotography.
I can't say enough about how much of a bargain this telescope is. You definitely get a lot of scope for the money. I only hope Meade can get it together and stay afloat. Because I think they are making some great products.

Aperture: 10-Inch. Focal Length: 1016mm. Focal Ratio: f/4. 8x50 Viewfinder, Ultra High Transmission Coatings (UHTC). Optical Tube Construction Schmidt-Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain optics are mounted in precision-machined aluminum cells and mounted in sturdy steel tubes which are baked with highgrade textured enamel paint. The optical tube assembly is closed, reducing air currents inside the tube. This prevents distortion of an otherwise sharp image. Plus, a closed tube significantly helps keep the optics clean. Corrector Lens Fully corrects for spherical aberration and provides pinpoint star images. Water white glass is used in all Schmidt-Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain corrector lenses to maximize light transmission. The use of water white glass results in an increase of light transmission in excess of 10%, as compared to competing telescopes using soda lime glass. Individually Figured Optics Schmidt-Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain corrector lenses and mirrors are individually figured to create a superior optical system, which is renowned for its exquisite smoothness and performance.
