(More customer reviews)This is a great little TV/DVD combo. Only problem was the lack of info for how to get the sound issue worked out. The problem seems to be the "Night Mode" setting. To get to this you need to be playing a DVD, press the stop button, then menu. A hidden menu system comes up(think its page 63 in the manual). Go to the sounds menu and change the Night mode to ON. Then exit the menu and press play on the DVD function. You should see a dramatic improvement in the sound volume.
Took a little while to figure this out but it does work. Figured that there had to be a way to do this, there were a lot of questions floating around but no answer. Hope it helps.
