(More customer reviews)The Ram Mount is a bit bigger than I expected but it works very well. Because it has two bearings, the Ram Mount is a bit longer than I thought it would be. The two bearings allow you to twist and turn the mount to any position including sideways. I have an older Jeep Grand Cherokee and the dash sticks up. I like to mount the iPhone low and the Ram Mount allows me to adjust for the upward sloping dash.
The knob allows two halves of the shaft to squeeze both bearings at the same time so you can tighten as much as you want. But don't go too far or it might crack (haven't tested this). The knob is easy to tighten and loosen.
The suction is kind of cool. I have other mounts in which you must push a lever down. The Ram Mount is a twisting action so nothing is ever sticking out or in the way of cords.
You must take the iPhone out of any jacket it might be in before placing in the Ram Mount. Not a big deal to me.
Once in its holster, the iPhone is steady and solid. You can press any of the keys and the mount does not move.
The nice thing is that I can get different holsters for different devices. I'm thinking about getting a holster for my GPS that I can use with the same mount, saving me money on two mounts. Plus, the mount that came with my GPS is not the greatest so this one would hold my GPS in place better.
I want to mention that there is a clip at the top of the holster. I read reviews from other people with other manufacturers and their complaint was that the top clip went onto the glass of the iPhone. If you have a protective skin or face cover, it can get damaged. The good news is the clip on the Ram Mount stays above the glass so it doesn't ever contact any skin/face cover.
I highly recommend the Ram Mount but be warned that it's not a little dinky thing and storage can be a challenge in a car.
